Nobody ever starts a journey without a 'why'. As human beings, we're emotional creatures and quite often, we act on impulse.
Your 'why' is so important for weight loss because it is the kickstart your journey needs to propel you into action. Without a purpose, you drift aimlessly through workouts, not really knowing WHY you're doing it.
In this article, I'll share with you my 'why' and how you find yours so you can take the next step to your dream physique and lifestyle change.
I love people watching. I love using my eyes to understand why people act the way they do; it intrigues me - its weird.
I use ‘why’ in this quite often. What I mean is, why does that person dress like that? Why do they act like that? What makes them behave the way they do?
Some people know 'why' they do the things they do (and good on them), but sometimes, we fail to understand why we make the decisions we do.
For example, as coaches, we'll hear conversations like this:
"I don't know what came over me, I knew it was a bad decision to have those extra glasses of wine, but at the time I didn't care, I was overpowered by emotions and I had to have them."
In this circumstance, the client is aware they made a bad decision, but they don't fully understand WHY they made that decision in the first place.
It's this gap in between 'knowing something is bad' and still doing it is what fascinates me. This is what I love to help people indentify. We identify your 'why' and understand what your triggers are that cause you to take the actions you do.
In Module 5 of the Online Transformation Academy, we dive deep into helping you identify your 'why' so you can take control of your weight loss, one baby step at a time.
Over the years, I've taken a step back to understand my own 'why' and why I love doing the things I do.
Here's a little insight:
Why Am I A Coach?
I am a coach because I love helping people achieve their weight loss goals. It gives me my purpose and drives me to lead by example. When I see someone transform their mind, body and/or physique, it gives me a buzz like no other.
I want to help mum and dads lose weight so they can:
Why Do I Train?
I train because it makes me feel good. A lot of people don't know why they train and when it comes to weight loss, this can hinder progress. Understanding 'why' you train, or want to exercise, is the key that unlocks your progress.
It's kind of like going for a drive; not really knowing your destination and 'making it up' as you go along. It'll be draining, meaningless and you'll probably eventually get lost.
Understand 'why' you want to lose weight, and the rest will fall into place. Of course this takes time and a lot of 'soul searching' and you're probably reading this thinking 'I don't have time for that' but the time you spend wasted at the gym, could be better spent identifying your purpose.
Personal Trainers Need Personal Trainers
I believe everyone needs a coach. I have a coach because I need someone to challenge me and question my thoughts.
A coach will guide you in the right direction, when you fail to see where to go next.
See them as your very own co-pilot. They constantly provide you feedback on what might be around the corner and prepare you for that. In our case, here at The Body Transformation Academy, we're constantly providing the support our clients need to transform their body and that's anything from exercise, accountability, nutrition or even pain management.
Why Do You Want To Lose Weight?
Start with 'why'. Literally right now, take out a blank piece of paper and ask yourself the above question:
These are just a few of MANY questions you can ask yourself to identify your why. They're painful and it may trigger some deep emotions, but that's exactly what they're designed to do to propel you into action.
This will take you out of your comfort zone but believe me, it's good for you, it will grow you and it's what you need.
Remember, find your ‘why’ and you will have taken the next step to your dream physique and dream lifestyle change.
